The story

The story behind Angel's Envy

Angel's Envy starts in Louisville, Kentucky, on Whiskey Row, where Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes founded the brand in 2010. Henderson came out of a long Kentucky distilling career and built the house on one idea: age a straight bourbon in new charred oak, then finish it in a second barrel. The flagship mash bill runs 72% corn, 12% rye and 10% malted barley, aged 4 to 6 years before it goes into Portuguese port wine casks for up to 6 more months.

Bacardi bought the company in 2015. The finishing method did not change, and the awards kept coming, including a Spirit Journal nod naming the cask strength port finish Best Spirit in the World. We have poured this for Long Island customers for years, and the port sweetness still does the talking.

The flagship 750mL runs $49.99, which is the right place to start if you have never had a port finished bourbon. Triple Oak is $73.99 and adds a spice layer the standard bottle does not have. The 375mL is $31.99 when we have it. Rye 100' sits at $89.99, Single Barrel at $99.99, and Cask Strength at $249.99, the allocated bottle we rarely keep on the shelf. Call ahead on the limited ones.

Angel's Envy cocktails and pairings

The port finish wants salt and fat, not sugar. Serve the bourbon neat or over one large cube and let the fruit open.
Good to know

Angel's Envy questions, answered

Where does the name Angel's Envy come from?
It comes from the angel's share, the roughly 5% of whiskey that evaporates from barrels during aging. Founder Lincoln Henderson joked that his finished whiskey tasted so good they had finally gotten the better of the angels, leaving them envious.
Is Angel's Envy a true bourbon?
Yes. It meets every legal requirement for Kentucky Straight Bourbon, including a mash bill over 51% corn and aging in new charred oak, before the signature second cask finishing step. The flagship mash bill is 72% corn, 12% rye and 10% malted barley.
Who owns Angel's Envy?
Bacardi Limited owns the brand, having acquired the parent company, Louisville Distilling Co., in 2015. The distillery still operates in Louisville, Kentucky, on Whiskey Row, and the port cask finishing method has not changed under Bacardi.
How long is Angel's Envy aged?
The flagship bourbon spends 4 to 6 years in new charred American oak barrels, then up to 6 additional months in imported Portuguese port wine casks. The port finish is what gives it the dried cherry and soft caramel character.
