The story

The story behind Anakena

Anakena was founded in 1999 by childhood friends Felipe Ibáñez and Jorge Gutiérrez, and the name comes from the volcanic stone statues of Easter Island. The estate owns more than 400 hectares of vines across Chile's Central Valley, including Alto Cachapoal in the Rapel Valley, Leyda in the San Antonio Valley, and Colchagua. Accolade Wines acquired the brand in September 2015.

The Chardonnay is 100% Chardonnay, fermented in stainless steel and kept unoaked or very lightly oaked to hold the grape's natural acidity and bright tropical fruit. Vines sit along the foothills of the Andes, where volcanic soil and coastal breezes shape the microclimates. We have poured this one for years because it stays consistent bottle to bottle.

The lineup

Buying guidance

Which Anakena is right for you?

Anakena Chardonnay is value wine done properly. The 750mL is $7.99, and the 1.5L magnum is $12.99, which works out cheaper per glass than most anything else on our Chilean shelf. The reds follow the same logic: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at $7.99 for 750mL, Single Pinot Noir at $9.98, and all three reds in 1.5L at $12.99. The 2018 Chardonnay took 87 points and a Best Buy from Wine Enthusiast, and the price has not drifted since. Buy Anakena Chardonnay online, or come by the Commack store and we will chill one for you.

Anakena cocktails and pairings

Chill it to 50 to 54°F and pour it with shellfish, grilled chicken in a light cream sauce, or soft Brie. The unoaked style keeps the fruit forward instead of the barrel.
Good to know

Anakena questions, answered

Where is Anakena wine from?
Anakena is a Chilean wine brand sourced from the Central Valley, with estate vineyards in Alto Cachapoal, Leyda, and Colchagua. It was founded in 1999 by Felipe Ibáñez and Jorge Gutiérrez and is now owned by Accolade Wines.
Is Anakena Chardonnay oaked?
Anakena Chardonnay is predominantly unoaked or very lightly oaked. It ferments in stainless steel to preserve natural acidity, giving bright mango, pineapple, melon, and honey notes rather than vanilla or toast.
What does Anakena Chardonnay taste like?
It is fresh and fruit forward, with mango, pineapple, melon, and honey on a smooth, balanced finish. Alcohol runs about 13% to 13.5%, and the wine is best served chilled at 50 to 54°F.
What food pairs with Anakena Chardonnay?
Serve it with fresh shellfish, citrus marinated shrimp, grilled chicken breast in a light cream sauce, pork tenderloin, or soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert. Green salads and mushroom risotto also work well.
Can I get Anakena Chardonnay delivered or pick it up?
Yes. We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free local delivery over $250, and free curbside pickup at our Commack store. Wine ships only to states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout.
