The story

The story behind Admiral Nelson's

Admiral Nelson's was built by Luxco in St. Louis, and the rum stocks themselves come up from the Caribbean, including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, where they are distilled from fermented sugarcane molasses. The liquid lands in the United States, gets blended with spices and vanilla, and goes into the bottle. Sazerac, the family owned Bardstown, Kentucky company founded in 1935, bought the brand in 2011.

The label carries Admiral Horatio Nelson, the British officer who died at Trafalgar in 1805. The rum inside is a value tier pour, and it has spent years as the second largest selling spiced rum in the country. We have stocked it on Jericho Turnpike long enough to watch it become a house staple for backyard mixing.

Buying guidance

Which Admiral Nelson's is right for you?

This is value tier rum, and we price it that way. The 50mL bottles of Coconut, Spiced and Watermelon run 99 cents, which makes them an easy way to try a flavor before committing to a full bottle. The 1L Spiced and 1L Pineapple sit at 12.99, and the 750mL Vanilla is 12.99 as well. The 1L Coconut is 14.99. Compare that to what a 750mL of the big national brand costs and the math gets obvious. Good to know

Admiral Nelson's questions, answered

Who owns Admiral Nelson's Rum?
Sazerac owns Admiral Nelson's Rum. The independent, family owned spirits company, founded in 1935 and based in Bardstown, Kentucky, bought the brand from Luxco in 2011 and continues to produce it today.
Where is Admiral Nelson's Rum made?
The base rum stocks are imported from the Caribbean, including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. They are blended with spices and flavorings and bottled at facilities in the United States, not at a single island distillery.
Is Admiral Nelson's the same as Captain Morgan?
No, they are separate brands with different owners. Captain Morgan belongs to Diageo, while Admiral Nelson's is a Sazerac brand built as a budget friendly alternative and the second largest selling spiced rum in the US.
What does Admiral Nelson's Spiced Rum taste like?
It is sweet and approachable, dominated by vanilla and soft caramel with lighter cinnamon, clove and nutmeg behind it. The finish is gentle with minimal alcohol burn, which is why it mixes so easily with cola.
How do I get Admiral Nelson's Rum delivered or picked up?
We offer same-day or next-day delivery across Nassau and Suffolk, free local delivery over $250, and free curbside pickup at our Commack store. Spirits ship to the states where it is legal, confirmed at checkout, so delivery and pickup are the routes.
