The story

The story behind Sonoma Cutrer

Brice Cutrer Jones planted Sonoma Cutrer in 1973 as a grape-growing farm in Sonoma County, California, and released the first vintage in 1981. The Duckhorn Portfolio bought the winery from Brown-Forman on April 30, 2024. Every bottle is 100 percent Chardonnay, never a blend of other white grapes.

Hand-harvested fruit runs through a proprietary forced-air cooling tunnel that drops it to 50°F before whole-cluster pressing, which holds acidity and blocks oxidation. The wine ferments and ages in custom-milled French oak with full malolactic and sur-lies contact, Burgundian method end to end. Sonoma Cutrer was also an early adopter of screwcaps on premium Chardonnay.
