Description
From the historic grand cru village of Aÿ in France’s Champagne region, Henri Giraud’s Solera is a rare, small-production treasure that blurs the line between fine Champagne and luxurious dessert wine. Crafted in a perpetual “solera” begun in 1990, successive vintages of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are patiently married in Argonne oak casks, creating a deep amber elixir layered with complexity. In the glass, the 750mL bottle pours a luminous topaz hue, releasing seductive aromas of dried apricot, candied orange peel, fig, acacia honey, and toasted hazelnut. The first sip is silk-textured and unctuous yet vibrant, unfolding flavors of poached pear, date, salted caramel, baking spice, and a whisper of brioche. A bright thread of Champagne acidity keeps the natural sweetness lively, finishing with a long, mouth-watering echo of roasted almond and citrus zest. Pair it with foie gras, blue cheese, tarte Tatin, or simply savor it slowly after dinner.
Henri Giraud bottles each release by hand with minimal sulphur, ensuring purity and expressive aromatics. Only a few thousand bottles reach the U.S. every year, making this a collectible gem for lovers of both port and Champagne.
