Remus Bourbon is a tribute to legendary Prohibition-era “King of the Bootleggers,” George Remus, distilled and aged in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, at the historic MGP distillery. This high-rye straight bourbon is built from a pair of proprietary mashbills (60%–36%–4% and 75%–21%–4% corn/rye/malted barley), then matured for a minimum of four years in new charred American oak. Bottled at a robust 94 proof, it pours a warm amber in your glass and welcomes the nose with aromas of vanilla-bean ice cream, toasted marshmallow, and spiced orange peel. The palate follows through with rich caramel, sweet corn bread, maple candy, and a burst of cinnamon, clove, and cracked black pepper supplied by the generous rye content. Mid-sip notes of dried fig, mint leaf, and charred oak add complexity before a lingering, slightly dry finish of leather and dark chocolate.
