How to Plan Memorial Day Parties with Commack Wine Delivery
May 27, 2026
You promised to host the big holiday cookout. Now you’re staring at a grill covered in burgers, hot dogs, and marinated chicken, and you realize the fridge is empty of wine and spirits. Maybe your in-laws are pulling into the driveway in thirty minutes. Or you just got off a late call and the stores are closing. We get it. That’s exactly why we built Long Island Wine & Spirit Merchant the way we did. Located right on Jericho Turnpike in Commack, we help you pull off a Memorial Day party without the panic. Whether you need a case of crisp white wine for the seafood platter or a bottle of bourbon for the evening old fashioned, we make it simple. Same-day alcohol delivery means you can keep your focus on the guests, not the errands. Let’s walk through how to plan a Memorial Day celebration that feels effortless, starting with what matters most: the wine.
Setting the Stage for a Memorial Day Celebration with Commack Wine Delivery
Why Your Memorial Day Menu Deserves a Thoughtfully Curated Wine Selection
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. Families gather around grills, friends crowd patios, and kids race through sprinklers. The food you serve sets the tone, but the wine you pour makes the meal memorable. A thoughtfully curated wine selection transforms a simple cookout into a real celebration. You don’t need a sommelier’s license to get it right. You just need to match the wine to the flavors on the plate.
Take the classic Memorial Day menu. Smoky burgers, tangy barbecue chicken, grilled corn on the cob, and a big bowl of potato salad all call for different wine styles. A bold red wine stands up to the char of a burger. A crisp white wine cuts through the creaminess of coleslaw. A chilled rosé sips beautifully alongside anything that came off the grill. By picking wines that complement each dish, you show your guests you care about the details.
Being a local Commack wine merchant means we know what Long Islanders actually drink during the holiday weekend. North Fork wines appear on nearly every patio in Suffolk County for good reason. They’re fresh, food-friendly, and made by neighbors. Macari Vineyards and Bedell Cellars produce exceptional white and rosé wines that pair perfectly with summer fare. Our in-house sommelier, who holds a WSET certification, can help you find the exact bottle for your menu.
You don’t have to guess. Stop by our liquor store on Jericho Turnpike or browse our online liquor store from your phone. We organize our shelves by region, varietal, and price point. Whether you need a magnum bottle for a crowd or a single bottle for a quiet toast, we have you covered. A carefully chosen wine selection tells your guests they matter.
The Convenience of Same Day Alcohol Delivery for Last Minute Party Planning
Here’s a scenario you know well. You planned the menu, bought the charcoal, and cleaned the deck. But the wine slipped your mind entirely. Or maybe you thought you had enough vodka for the bloody marys, but the bottle is half empty. Now the party starts in two hours. What do you do?
You reach for your phone and order same day alcohol delivery from Long Island Wine & Spirit Merchant. We offer fast local liquor delivery across Suffolk County and beyond. Our delivery zone covers Commack, East Northport, Huntington, Smithtown, Dix Hills, and many surrounding towns. In most cases, your order arrives within the same day, sometimes in under an hour. That means you can keep prepping the grill while we handle the drinks.
The New York State Liquor Authority allows alcohol delivery with age verification at both point of sale and delivery. When you place an order online, our team confirms your ID at the door. No one under twenty-one gets the package. It’s safe, legal, and incredibly convenient. You don’t even need to change out of your apron.
Our alcohol delivery near me service works perfectly for last-minute party planning. Forgot the champagne for the toast? We deliver. Need an extra bottle of pinot noir for unexpected guests? We deliver. Want to surprise the host with a wine gift basket? We deliver that too. You can place an order from our website, pick out the bottles you want, and leave the rest to us.
This isn’t just about convenience. It’s about freedom. You get to enjoy your own party instead of running out to the store. You stay present with your guests. That’s the real gift of same-day delivery.
Choosing the Right Wine and Spirits for Your Holiday Gathering from a Local Liquor Store
Walking into a big box liquor store can feel overwhelming. Rows of bottles stretch in every direction, and you have no idea where to start. That’s why supporting a local liquor store like ours makes such a difference. We know our inventory, we know our customers, and we know what sells during Memorial Day weekend.
Start with the basics. For a holiday gathering, you want a mix of red wine, white wine, rosé, sparkling wine, and at least one spirit for cocktails. Our wine selection includes everything from affordable wine for large groups to luxury wine for a special toast. We carry cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, merlot, zinfandel, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and prosecco. We also stock harder-to-find options like orange wine, pét-nat, and natural wine for adventurous guests.
Spirits matter just as much. Our spirits delivery includes premium bourbon, scotch, vodka, gin, rum, tequila, mezcal, liqueurs, cognac, and brandy. You can build a full bar for your Memorial Day party with just one stop. Whether you need a bourbon gift for the host or a scotch tasting set for the connoisseur, we have it. We also carry craft spirits from Long Island distilleries, which make for great conversation starters.
Don’t forget the accessories. Wine accessories like corkscrews, decanters, and wine glasses elevate the drinking experience. A proper decanter opens up a young red wine, and the right glass makes a sparkling wine taste even better. We stock all of that too. You can grab a wine gift box to wrap a bottle for the host or add a bottle stopper for later.
By choosing a local Commack liquor store, you get expertise along with your purchase. Ask us for wine recommendations, and we’ll point you to the best bottle for your menu. We make it easy to buy wine online, pick up curbside, or have it delivered to your door.
Building a Wine and Spirits Strategy for Your Memorial Day Party
Pairing Red Wine and White Wine with Classic Barbecue and Grilled Seafood
The grill is the centerpiece of any Memorial Day cookout. What you pair with each item can make or break the meal. Red wine and white wine each have their place, and knowing when to use them turns you into the host everyone remembers.
Start with the red wine for beef and pork. A juicy burger or a medium-rare steak needs a wine with structure and dark fruit flavors. Cabernet sauvignon fits perfectly here. Its tannins cut through the fat, and its black cherry notes complement the char. Zinfandel works even better if you’re slathering ribs in a sweet, smoky barbecue sauce. The wine’s jammy fruit and moderate acidity handle the sugar and spice without clashing. Pinot noir offers a lighter alternative for grilled pork chops or sausages. Its bright acidity and earthy undertones keep the palate fresh.
Now move to the white wine for chicken and seafood. Grilled chicken benefits from a chardonnay with subtle oak. The wine’s buttery texture matches the golden skin of the bird. If you’re using a herb marinade, reach for sauvignon blanc. Its zesty citrus and grassy notes lift the flavors without overwhelming them. For grilled shrimp or fish tacos, a dry riesling or albariño cuts through the char and complements the sea salt.
Our sommelier recommends thinking about sauces too. A spicy barbecue sauce needs a wine with a touch of sweetness to balance the heat. A zinfandel or even a sweet red wine works beautifully here. For a tangy vinegar-based sauce, grab a red with bright acidity like a Barbera or Sangiovese. The wine pairing for Memorial Day menu should feel intuitive, not forced.
We stock all of these options at our liquor store in Commack. You can browse our red wine selection online or come in and talk to us. We’ll help you find the best wine for steak on the grill and the ideal white for your seafood platter.
Selecting Rosé and Sparkling Wine for Toasts and Outdoor Sipping
No Memorial Day party feels complete without rosé and sparkling wine. These two categories capture the spirit of the holiday: relaxed, joyful, and ready to celebrate. Rosé offers versatility, while sparkling wine adds a sense of occasion.
Rosé is the unofficial wine of summer. Its pale pink color looks beautiful in the afternoon sun, and its flavor profile bridges the gap between red and white. Dry rosé from Provence or the North Fork pairs with nearly everything on the table. Salads, grilled vegetables, cold pasta dishes, and even burgers all work. The wine’s strawberry and watermelon notes taste refreshing, and its crisp acidity cleanses the palate. We offer rosé delivery in Commack for Memorial Day, so you can stock up without leaving the house.
Sparkling wine sets the tone for toasts. Pop open a bottle of champagne or prosecco when guests arrive. The bubbles create an instant sense of celebration. Prosecco is lighter and fruitier, making it perfect for mimosas or aperol spritzes. Champagne offers more complexity, with notes of brioche and almond that pair well with appetizers like smoked salmon or cheese plates. You can order sparkling wine for Memorial Day toast from Long Island Wine Merchant directly to your door.
Consider serving rosé and sparkling wine in large format bottles. A magnum holds double the volume, meaning fewer trips to the cooler. Plus, large format wines age slower and taste better. They also make a dramatic statement on the table. We carry magnum bottles of several popular rosés and champagnes for exactly this reason.
Your guests will appreciate the thought. When they raise a glass of chilled bubbly or sip a rosé while chatting on the deck, they’ll know you put care into the selection. That’s the mark of a great host.
Crafting a Custom Wine Case or Party Wine Case for a Crowd
Feeding a crowd means thinking in bulk. Individual bottles work for small gatherings, but a party of twelve or more demands a strategic approach. That’s where a custom wine case or party wine case comes in.
A custom wine case lets you pick exactly what you need. You choose six, twelve, or more bottles from our selection. Mix reds and whites. Include a few rosés and a bottle of sparkling wine. Add a sweet red wine for dessert. Our online liquor store makes it easy to build your case bottle by bottle. You can filter by varietal, price, region, and food pairing. It’s like having a personal sommelier in your pocket.
For a Memorial Day party, we recommend a case with three bottles of red, three bottles of white, two bottles of rosé, two bottles of sparkling wine, one bottle of sweet red or dessert wine, and one wildcard like a natural wine or orange wine. This variety covers every course and every guest’s preference. You can order a party wine case delivery in Commack and have it arrive before the first guest shows up.
If you prefer a curated experience, try our pre-curated cases. Our sommelier selects the wines based on the season and popular trends. The Memorial Day case typically includes a North Fork sauvignon blanc, a California zinfandel, an Italian prosecco, and a French rosé. Each bottle pairs with a common holiday dish, so you don’t have to think twice.
Custom cases also make great gifts. If you’re attending someone else’s party, bring a custom case as a host gift. It shows you put real thought into the gesture. Add a wine gift box to each bottle for an extra touch of class. The host will remember you long after the burgers are gone.
Incorporating Bourbon, Vodka, and Tequila for Signature Memorial Day Cocktails
Wine covers the meal, but spirits power the cocktails. A Memorial Day party without a signature drink feels incomplete. Bourbon, vodka, and tequila each bring something unique to the table.
Start with bourbon for the classic American cocktail. A bourbon old fashioned tastes like summer in a glass. Muddle a sugar cube with bitters, add ice, and pour a generous measure of Kentucky bourbon. Garnish with an orange peel and a cherry. The drink is simple, strong, and satisfying. For a twist, try a bourbon smash with fresh mint and lemon. It’s lighter and more refreshing for a hot afternoon. You can order a bourbon gift for the host who loves whiskey or keep a bottle on hand for yourself.
Vodka serves as the backbone of countless summer cocktails. A vodka soda with lime is the definition of easy drinking. A bloody mary with celery salt and horseradish belongs at any brunch-style Memorial Day gathering. Vodka also works in punches and large-batch cocktails. Mix vodka with lemonade, simple syrup, and fresh berries for a crowd-pleasing pitcher drink. Our vodka selection includes premium brands that mix smoothly without harshness.
Tequila brings a festive energy to the party. Margaritas are the obvious choice. Blend tequila with lime juice and triple sec, then serve over ice or frozen. For a smoky twist, use mezcal in place of tequila. The agave flavor pairs beautifully with grilled meats and spicy salsas. A tequila sunrise with orange juice and grenadine offers a sweeter option that looks stunning in a glass.
Don’t forget the supporting players. Gin makes a mean gin and tonic with a slice of cucumber. Rum powers tropical punches and daiquiris. Liqueurs add depth to after-dinner coffee drinks. Our spirits delivery includes all of these and more. You can build a full bar for your Memorial Day weekend party with just one order.
Set up a self-serve drink station with bottles, mixers, and garnishes. Let guests craft their own cocktails. It keeps the party flowing and gives everyone a chance to try something new. We’ll provide the spirits; you provide the ice.
Exploring Sweet Red Wine and Dessert Wine Options for Holiday Desserts
The meal may end, but the evening doesn’t have to. A sweet red wine or dessert wine provides a perfect finish to the holiday feast. These wines pair with the final course and extend the celebration into the night.
Sweet red wine offers a bridge between dinner and dessert. Lambrusco, with its gentle fizz and red berry flavors, pairs beautifully with chocolate cake or berry cobbler. Brachetto d’Acqui tastes like raspberries and rose petals, making it a natural match for anything with fruit. You can find a sweet red wine for holiday desserts from Commack liquor store that will impress your guests without being cloying.
Dessert wines like port, sherry, and Sauternes offer more complexity. A ruby port with its dark fruit and spice notes pairs with aged cheese or dark chocolate. A tawny port works with nut-based desserts like pecan pie or baklava. Sauternes, with its honeyed sweetness and high acidity, cuts through rich custards and fruit tarts. These wines deserve small pours and slow sipping.
If your guests prefer something lighter, try a moscato d’Asti. It’s low in alcohol, gently fizzy, and tastes like peaches and cream. It makes a wonderful end to a heavy meal. You can also serve it with fresh fruit or a simple pound cake.
We stock a wide range of dessert wines in our liquor store. Ask us for recommendations based on your menu. We’ll point you to the bottle that will close the evening on a sweet note.
Adding Organic Wine and Natural Wine Choices for Eco Friendly Gatherings
More guests than ever care about what’s in their glass. Organic wine and natural wine options have grown from niche to mainstream. Adding these to your Memorial Day party shows you value sustainability and health.
Organic wine comes from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Many of our customers ask for organic options because they taste cleaner and support better farming practices. We carry several organic wines from Long Island and around the world. They pair just as well with barbecue and seafood as conventional wines. You can order organic wine for outdoor gatherings on Long Island directly from our online store.
Natural wine takes things a step further. These wines use native yeast fermentation and minimal intervention in the cellar. The result is a wine that tastes truly of the place it came from. Natural wines can be cloudy, funky, or surprisingly bright. They appeal to adventurous drinkers and anyone tired of overly polished commercial wines. We offer a natural wine delivery in Commack for summer parties that includes pét-nats, orange wines, and minimal-sulfur reds.
Sustainable wine covers practices beyond the vineyard. Some wineries use solar power, recycle water, or reduce packaging. We highlight these producers on our shelves and in our wine club subscription. Choosing sustainable options supports the Long Island wine region and protects it for future generations.
Vegan wine is another growing category. Many wines use animal-derived fining agents like egg whites or gelatin. Vegan wines skip those ingredients entirely. We label vegan wines clearly in our selection. If you have plant-based guests, this detail matters.
Adding one or two organic, natural, or sustainable wines to your party gives guests a choice. It shows you’ve thought about more than just the flavor. That’s the kind of hosting people remember.

Using Wine Accessories and Gift Baskets to Elevate the Host Experience
The wine and spirits are ready. The food is cooking. Now think about the details. Wine accessories and gift baskets can elevate the entire experience from good to unforgettable.
Start with the basics. A good corkscrew saves you from disaster at the last minute. We carry waiter’s corkscrews, electric openers, and winged corkscrews. Pick one that matches your style and skill level. A decanter aerates young red wines, softening tannins and releasing aromas. If you’re serving a bold cabernet or a young nebbiolo, pour it through a decanter first. Your guests will taste the difference.
Wine glasses matter more than most people realize. A thin-rimmed glass enhances the wine’s aroma and directs it properly to your palate. We stock universal stems, red wine glasses, white wine glasses, and flutes for sparkling wine. You can order a set for your party or upgrade your home bar. Our wine accessories section covers everything you need.
Wine gift baskets make excellent host gifts. If you’re attending someone else’s Memorial Day party, a basket filled with a fine bottle, a corkscrew, a pair of glasses, and a tasting note card shows real thought. You can order a wine gift basket for Memorial Day host from our website. Add a personal message, and we deliver it to the address you choose.
We also offer wine gift boxes. For a small fee, we wrap any bottle in an an elegant gift box. Add a ribbon and a note, and you have a present that looks as good as it tastes. This works for corporate gifts, thank-you presents, or birthday gifts for a wine lover.
Don’t forget the little things. Bottle stoppers preserve open wine for the next day. Wine charms help guests identify their glasses. A wine journal lets someone track their favorites. These small touches make you look like a pro.
Tapping into Long Island Wine Region and North Fork Vineyards for Local Pride
Memorial Day is about honoring service and celebrating community. What better way to show local pride than by serving wine from the Long Island wine region? The North Fork of Long Island produces some of the best wines on the East Coast. Our shelves are full of them.
The Long Island wine region benefits from a maritime climate similar to Bordeaux. Long summers, cool breezes, and well-drained soils produce grapes with concentrated flavor. North Fork vineyards like Bedell Cellars, Macari Vineyards, and Paumanok Vineyards have earned national recognition for their merlot, cabernet franc, and sauvignon blanc. These wines taste like home.
Serving North Fork wines at your Memorial Day party sparks conversation. Guests ask about the vineyard, the grape, and the region. You can share what you know or point them to our wine region map for more details. It adds a layer of storytelling to the meal.
We also carry wines from the Finger Lakes region. Riesling from the Finger Lakes pairs exceptionally well with spicy dishes and grilled seafood. It’s another New York wine that deserves a spot on your table. By choosing local, you support New York farmers and distillers.
For spirits, look to Long Island distilleries. Craft distilleries like Matchbook Distilling Company and Long Island Spirits produce vodka, gin, bourbon, and liqueurs. These are unique finds that guests won’t see everywhere. Pouring a local rye whiskey or a handcrafted gin shows you care about the community.
We feature these local products prominently in our store. Ask us for recommendations, and we’ll point you to the best of the region. Your guests will appreciate the local pride.
Planning Ahead with Wine Storage Tips and Preservation for Summer Parties
The party eventually ends, but the wine doesn’t have to. Proper storage and preservation keep your wine tasting great long after the holiday. Summer heat can damage wine quickly, so a few smart habits make a big difference.
Store wine in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. A basement, closet, or wine fridge works best. The ideal temperature is around fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re storing wine for a few days before the party, keep it in a basement or air-conditioned room. Avoid the kitchen counter or anywhere near the oven.
For after the party, use a wine preservation system. A simple vacuum stopper removes oxygen from an open bottle, keeping it fresh for a few extra days. For serious enthusiasts, a Coravin system lets you pour wine without removing the cork. The wine stays fresh for weeks or months because oxygen never enters the bottle. We carry both options in our accessories section.
If you opened a bottle you loved, write down the name and vintage. Our staff can help you order more. You can also join our wine club subscription, which sends curated bottles to your door each month. It’s a great way to discover new favorites without thinking about it.
Large format wine like magnums last longer than standard bottles because there’s less oxygen relative to the wine. If you plan to enjoy a bottle over several days, a magnum is an excellent choice. We carry several large format options.
Store leftover red wine in the fridge. Red wine keeps better at cooler temperatures, even though you serve it closer to room temperature. Pull it out thirty minutes before drinking to let it warm up. White wine and rosé stay in the fridge naturally. Sparkling wine loses its bubbles within a day or two, so drink it fresh.
With a little planning, your Memorial Day wine can last through the weekend and into the next celebration. That’s the smart way to host.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you really get same-day wine delivery on Long Island?
Absolutely. Long Island Wine & Spirit Merchant offers same-day alcohol delivery across Commack, East Northport, Huntington, Smithtown, Dix Hills, and many other Suffolk County towns. Orders placed by mid-afternoon typically arrive the same day. Our drivers carry ID scanners to verify age at delivery, per New York State Liquor Authority regulations. You can place your order online, choose your delivery window, and relax while we handle the rest. It’s the easiest way to stock up for a last-minute party.
Does alcohol delivery require an adult signature in New York?
Yes, it does. Under New York State law, every alcohol delivery must be made to a person who is at least twenty-one years old. Our drivers scan your ID at the door before handing over the package. No one under the legal drinking age can accept the delivery. This rule applies to wine, spirits, and beer alike. It keeps our community safe and compliant with state regulations. You or another adult must be present when we arrive.
What’s the best sweet red wine for a beginner?
A great starting point for sweet red wine is Lambrusco. It’s slightly fizzy, low in alcohol, and tastes like fresh red berries. Brachetto d’Acqui is another excellent choice, with flavors of raspberry and rose petals. Both are light, fruity, and easy to enjoy. They pair beautifully with chocolate desserts, fruit tarts, or even soft cheeses. You can find these options at our Commack liquor store. Our staff can also recommend a sweet red wine that fits your palate and budget.
How do I pair wine with barbecue sauce?
The key is matching the sauce’s sweetness and spice level. A sweet, tomato-based barbecue sauce calls for a wine with similar sweetness, like a zinfandel or a sweet red wine. A tangy, vinegar-based sauce needs a wine with bright acidity, such as a Barbera or Sangiovese. For spicy sauces, reach for a wine with a touch of residual sugar to balance the heat. Our sommelier can help you find the perfect wine pairing for any barbecue sauce you’re using.
What are North Fork wines, and why are they special?
North Fork wines come from the eastern end of Long Island, specifically the North Fork of Suffolk County. The region’s maritime climate, with cool breezes and well-drained soil, produces grapes with concentrated flavor and balanced acidity. North Fork vineyards like Bedell Cellars, Macari Vineyards, and Paumanok Vineyards have earned national acclaim for their merlot, cabernet franc, and sauvignon blanc. These wines pair beautifully with local seafood, grilled meats, and summer vegetables. Serving North Fork wines at your party is a great way to celebrate Long Island’s winemaking heritage.
How can I make my Memorial Day party more eco-friendly with wine choices?
Choose organic wine, natural wine, or sustainable wine for your party. Organic wines are made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Natural wines use minimal intervention in the cellar, resulting in a wine that tastes truly of its origin. Sustainable wines come from producers who prioritize environmental practices like solar power, water conservation, and reduced packaging. We carry all three categories at our liquor store. Look for our labels or ask our staff for recommendations. Adding even one eco-friendly bottle to your lineup shows your guests you care about the planet.
What’s the easiest way to order wine for a party of twenty people?
The easiest method is to build a custom wine case on our website. Choose twelve bottles from our selection, mixing reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wine. For twenty guests, we recommend at least two cases to ensure you have enough for toasts, dinner, and lingering conversation. You can also order a pre-curated party wine case that our sommelier has designed specifically for holiday gatherings. Add a bottle of dessert wine or a spirit for cocktails, and you’re set. We’ll deliver everything to your door, or you can pick it up curbside on Jericho Turnpike.
