Nose
Ripe blackberry and plum first, then a clear pull of vanilla and caramel from the barrel, with toasted oak and a faint brown sugar edge sitting over the fruit.
Palate
Full bodied and smooth, almost plush. Dark cherry and blackberry lead, vanilla and caramel swell through the middle, oak toast and a soft spice note close it out. Tannins are gentle, sweetness is real but restrained.
Finish
Warm and lingering, the caramel and dark fruit fading slowly with a last lick of toasted oak and sweet spice.
How to serve and what to pour it with
Serve it a touch below room temperature, around 60 to 65 degrees, in a wide bowl so the oak and fruit have room to open. No ice, it dulls the caramel. Give it 15 to 20 minutes in the glass or a quick decant, and pour the last glass carefully since barrel aged reds like this can throw a little sediment.
